April 2009
Dear Member,
On behalf of your committee
I would like to welcome you to the 2009 tennis season.
Our season will start in
the morning of 11th April 2009 when the coaches will be offering
free tennis coaching sessions as detailed below:
10am – 11am under 10’s
11am – 12 noon under 16’s
12noon – 1pm adult beginners/improvers
If you have any friends who
would like to come along to the above coaching sessions, our coaches will be
delighted to welcome them to the club. A
full range of Prince tennis racquets will be available for members to try.
For the Senior Members of
the club our season will start at Social Afternoon with a tournament on
Saturday 11th April 2009.
Play will commence at 2pm so if you would like to join in the fun at
this tournament please arrive no later than 1.45pm to allow Phil, our Social
Convener to organise the draw.
Milngavie coaching team is
looking forward to the new season ahead and would like to welcome two new
coaches who are joining our coaching team - John James, who was formerly the
head coach at Bearsden and Scott Weston, a DCA coach from Hillhead. The coaching team would like to wish all our
members a good season and they plan to run various coaching sessions throughout
the season. Details of all coaching
sessions, junior tournament information, etc will all be posted on the notice
board.
Adult coaching is available
on Sunday mornings from 10.30am – 11.30am at a cost of £3.00 per lesson to
members. If you have any friends who are
non-members and are interested in attending the adult coaching sessions, please
do not hesitate to bring them along. The
cost to non-members is £4.50 per lesson.
Once again we have entered
various junior and senior teams into the summer leagues. Details for the various teams’ match practice
sessions are attached to this letter.
Also attached are details of home match nights for all senior
teams. Junior matches are held at
various times over weekends, please see noticeboard for details.
Floodlights are free for
team matches but at all other times floodlighting must be paid for including
social tennis.
A membership renewal form
is enclosed and subscriptions should be paid by 30th April
20098. If you wish to stagger payment,
then you may do so by sending a cheque for half the amount, together with an
additional cheque post-dated 1st July 2009. We have changed the age of the mini-minor
membership to 8 and under, this change has been made to be consistent with all
other sections within the Sports Club.
The membership fees have been increased this year, this is due to a
slight increase in the Sports Club membership but the tennis membership remains
the same. Details of all new
subscriptions costs for each category are detailed on the Membership Renewal
Form which is enclosed with this letter.
Membership cards will be
issued to all members again this year and please have your membership badge
with you at all times at the club. To
try and increase the profile of the bar, as a trial this year, the Sports Club
are introducing monetary vouchers which can be used to purchase drinks (i.e.
alcohol, soft drinks, teas and coffees), crisps, sweets, etc from the bar. These vouchers will be sent out to each
member along with their membership cards.
We are going to re-introduce
a Senior Club Tournament this year.
Entry forms will be available shortly and will be posted on the notice
board. To help make this a success we
would encourage everyone to enter. First
round losers will be entered into a Plate Competition.
The Junior Club Tournament
will be run up to final stage over the school summer holidays with the Final’s
Day being held on Saturday 29th August 2009. Entry forms are enclosed and should be
returned to the Secretary no later than Saturday 7th June 2009. There will also be entry forms on the Notice
Board at the bottom of the downstairs lobby.
The Club once again has
been allocated tickets for the Wimbledon Championships which is being held from
22nd June until 5th July 2009. If you would like to be included in the
ballot for these tickets please fill in the relevant form enclosed. Once the draw has been made the lucky winners
names will be posted on the notice board.
Social tennis sessions are
held on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm onwards and on Saturday afternoons from
1.30pm. These sessions are enjoyed by
all and I am very happy to report that we welcomed some new faces last year who
are now regulars at social tennis sessions.
We would welcome the opportunity to do the same again this year. All standards welcome. Phil McCormick our Social Convener will once
again be arranging monthly Tournaments at the Saturday afternoon social tennis
sessions. Please check noticeboard for
details.
We hope to keep all members
as informed as possible and have attached information which we hope will be
useful to you.
The Sports Club are holding
a Jumble Sale/Fete on Saturday 16th May 2009 to raise funds for much
needed improvements within the club.
Details for this will be posted on the notice board but, in the
meantime, if you have any suggestions for stalls, etc please contact one of the
tennis committee. Obviously if you would
be willing to help on the day we would be delighted to hear from you.
To help the
Sports Club to fundraise they set up the 100 Club. If you are interested in joining the 100
club, all you need to do is complete the
standing order form that can be found on the tennis website www.milngavietennis.info send it to
our treasurer, Jenny Whittaker who will then allocate you a number which is
eligible to win a monetary prize each month.
All profits from the 100 club are used to refurbish the clubhouse, so
the more members that join the sooner improvements can be made to the
clubhouse.
Finally, I would like to
wish everyone a very enjoyable, successful and sunny 2009 season.
Kind regards,
June MacLean
